Executive champs to compete in chess tilt
MANILA, Philippines – Several top executive and professional chess players led by Dr. Jenny Mayor have already confirmed their participation in the first King of Sports Executive Chess tournament on October 19 in Quezon City.
Mayor, who has been inactive since winning the Philippines Executive Chess championships six times, made herself available for the tournament.
"Matagal-tagal na din tayo hindi nakapaglalaro ng chess dahil busy ako sa family business sa Romblon,” said Mayor, who is a dentist by profession.
Joining Mayor are Dr. Johnny Corrales of Neopolitan Hospital, Atty. Quirino Sagario of DAR Quezon City, businessmen Noel Garcia, Noel Tejada, Emil Colindres and Juancho Caunte, engineers Efren Bagamasbad and Menandro Manuel, consultant technical writer Emir Gamis, sportswriter Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., administrative assistant III Ramil Acosta of DepEd Quezon City, board secretary Alfredo Chay of Quezon City Parks Development Foundation and Ray Rabago of Adamson University.
"The competition is open to company executives, career officers, businessmen and professionals," said Ricardo Martin, managing director of the organizing D’ Plaza Chess Association of the Philippines.
The event is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines and will be limited to 40 players who will slug it out in a seven round-Swiss System with time control of 20 minutes plus 30 second-increments.
