Nacho: I hope Marquez drops Pacquiao twice
MANILA, Philippines – Legendary boxing trainer Nacho Beristain hopes his fighter Juan Manuel Marquez will be able to knock down Manny Pacquiao on December 8.
He hopes Marquez will be able to do it not just once, but twice.
"I would like to believe, and hope to God, that we put him down once or twice -- but it is a bit difficult because the Filipino is also a warrior and a very tough fighter,” Beristain said in a Boxing Scene report.
The boxing trainer said the only way they could come up with a decisive victory over Pacquiao is either by knocking out or knocking down the Filipino boxer.
“Last time we thought we had the fight in the bag, but look at what happened...you can never tell what the judges are thinking," said Beristain.
He was referring to the third fight between Pacquiao and Marquez in November when the Mexican counter puncher was close to getting a win against the fighting congressman. Pacquiao, however, was able to pull off a majority decision win against Marquez.
Beristain said they will have to keep up if not outpace Pacquiao to be successful.
"In the third fight we were able to keep up with him, and we want to use that approach again to see if we can put him down on the canvas at least once," he said.
