Marquez: Maybe Pacquiao will beat Rios
MANILA – Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez believes his Filipino rival Manny Pacquiao has the advantage over Mexican-American slugger Brandon Rios when they clash on November 24.
Marquez said that while the 27-year-old Rios is the younger, hungrier boxer, Pacquiao has the edge in ring experience.
“Maybe Pacquiao will win the fight, because Pacquiao has more experience [than] Rios,” he said in Boxing Scene. “Rios is a very strong fighter, but I think Pacquiao will win the fight.”
Following his 6th-round knockout loss to Marquez, Pacquiao is making his boxing comeback by facing the dangerous brawler in Rios.
The fight will take place at The Venetian in Macau.
Meanwhile, Marquez remains non-committal about a possible rematch with the Filipino superstar.
Despite lucrative offers for a 5th fight, he said he prefers to treasure his knockout victory over Pacquiao for the rest of his life.
“The money is important in life, but the most important thing for me is the honor, the pride,” Marquez said. “Everybody knows what happened in those four fights. I want to keep that great moment all my life.”
Maarquez is set to face WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada.
