UFC: Palhares got cut for holding submission
MANILA, Philippines – Brazilian submission specialist Rousimar Palhares got cut from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for his “unsportsmanlike conduct” in his UFC Fight Night match against Mike Pierce.
According to Sherdog, Palhares forced Pierce to tap out with an ankle lock during their match last Wednesday.
The Brazilian, however, delayed releasing his opponent’s leg even after referee Keith Peterson stopped the contest.
The victory was the lone submission win on the card, but Palhares’ actions cost him the $50,000 "Submission of the Night" bonus.
Palhares, who wil be leaving the UFC with an 8-4 record, was also suspended for a similar offense in 2010.
