"La Zorrita" Humbeto Soto claimed the World Boxing Council's interim super featherweight championship via a 10th round technical knockout of Gamaliel "Platano" Diaz Saturday night in Coahuila de Zaragoza, Mexico.

Fightnews.com reported that Soto decked Diaz once in round one.

Referee Lawrence Cole, meanwhile, subtracted two points against Diaz for continuous holding.

As round 10 ended, Diaz's corner decided to keep him in his corner as his coach decided against sending him out for the 11th round.

The win improved Soto's record to 45-7-2 with 28 knockout wins while Diaz dropped to 23-87-2 with 10 KOs.

The fight for the WBC interim super featherweight title was the same battle that Soto fought for in June when he was disqualified against Francisco Lorenzo.

In a WBC super featherweight eliminator match, Humberto "Betillo" Gutiérrez (23-1-1, 18 KOs) won a 10-round unanimous decision over Guadalupe "Bronco" Rosales (27-2, 15 KOs).

Incidentally, Soto's new belt was once worn by Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao. He win it via TKO against Mexico's Hector Velasquez in 2005.
