Zamora's buzzer beater tows Lyceum past JRU
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) eked out a 73-72 win over Jose Rizal University (JRU) on Saturday’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Pirates were trailing the Heavy Bombers by one, 73-72, in the dying seconds of the match when Dexter Zamora sank a teardrop before the end of regulation.
The buzzer beater enabled Lyceum to hold off JRU’s comeback from 14 points down.
Lyceum dominated JRU for most part of the game before the Heavy Bombers’ fourth quarter-surge.
Michael Mabulac topscored Jose Rizal with 17 points.
The Pirates and the Bombers are now tied 6-10 in the NCAA standings at 7th.
In the other game, Letran nabbed the top spot in the NCAA standings by beating San Sebastian, 75-68.
Raymond Almazan scored 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Knights’ 14th win against 3 losses. Letran also got added boost from Mark Cruz’s 16 points.
Jovit Dela Cruz had 21 points for the Stags, who fell to 9-7.
