Former Philippine Basketball Association commissioner Rodrigo "Rudy" Salud can only laugh in amazement at the change that has taken place in the PBA since his retirement.

"Puro bago na mga mukha," Salud told the PBA Website as he watched a recent game upon the invitation of current commissioner Sonny Barrios.

Salud said that he is really amazed at the size of today's players, adding that when he was commissioner from 1988-1992, a 6' 1" point guard like Robert "Sonny" Jaworski was considered big for his size.

"Bilib talaga ako. Dati eh si Jaworski malaki na katawan non eh. 'Yun pala payat siya pag nakita mo ngayon. Mada-dwarf siya."

Salud, who is also the founding secretary-general of the World Boxing Council, said he Mick Pennisi and Asi Taulava are the only ones he can recognize from the current crop of players.

But despite the huge disparity in size, Salud said he believes that Jaworski and his peers were compensated for their deficiency in bulk.

"Of course, mas maliit nga ang katawan ni Jaworski, pero malaki naman ang utak non!" Salud said. "Like Philip Cezar, payat ang katawan niya pero ang brains niya ang laki. Sina [Mon] Fernandez din, di ba?"

Now 70, Salud has had a couple of heart surgeries. He said that this has kept him from attending PBA game regularly.

"Walang akong magawa. Panay-panay ang operasyon sa 'kin, e," he said.
