'Bata' battles 'mysterious' foe in 'Face Off'
MANILA – Filipino billiards legend Efren “Bata” Reyes will battle it out with the “mysterious” Chao Fong Pang when they meet at Club Capo Exclusive in Quezon City for “Face Off Series 3” on October 28 and 29.
According a report posted on BilliardPhilippines.com, the two-day match between Reyes and the semi-retired Chao will be a race-to-50 9-ball match up.
“It’s a very intriguing match,” said Bugsy Promotions head Perry Mariano, who joined forces with JBET.net and Club Capo to stage the “Face Off” series.
Chao was last seen in action during the 2007 World Pool Championship. After that, rumors spread that he left Taiwan and migrated to China to teach pool.
Indeed, the former two-time world 9-ball champion is now based in China and is credited for the sport’s boom in the country.
Reyes, meanwhile, is riding high with his recent string of victories in the Villar Cup Kadayawan Leg, the 2009 World Cup of Pool and the One Pocket tournament in Galveston, Texas.
“They are the two of the all-time greats in the sport and we believe they are still among the bests today,” said Mariano.
“Face Off Series 3” is the follow up of the successful showdown between former world no.1 Dennis Orcollo and Taiwanese Yang Ching-shun last September with the former emerging the victor, 50-45.
