Arum: Pacquiao should choose between boxing, politics
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum is not happy over Manny Pacquiao’s decision to delay his training in Los Angeles, California.
The fighting congressman was supposed to arrive in the US over the weekend to kick off his training at the fabled Wild Card Gym.
However, pressing matters have forced Pacquiao to stay in General Santos City.
As a result, the boxer’s promotional activities in the US for his upcoming fight against Juan manuel Marquez were stalled.
"Manny has to decide whether he is a boxer or he's a politician,” a peeved Arum told local sports commentator Ronnie Nathanielsz.
“I would like for the next two months for him to be a boxer and then the politics will take care of itself when he finishes the fight with Marquez. But that's up to him."
The Filipino boxer earlier said he will allot two training weeks in General Santos City before heading to the US for an eight-week camp.
But the recent delay affected Pacquiao’s timetable.
Arum said the Filipino superstar should better concentrate on his training, citing that he has a difficult bout ahead.
Pacquiao already had three difficult fights against Marquez and Arum said the Mexican will aim for the kill in the fourth bout.
"Each guy is going to go out for a knockout and it better be the best Manny Pacquiao that shows up," he said.
