Adamson belles rout St. Louis in opener

MANILA, Philippines - Adamson needed just three innings to overwhelm St. Louis University of Baguio City, 29-0, at the start of the Cebuana Lhuillier National Inter-collegiate women’s softball championship at the Rosario Sports Complex in Pasig City.

Rizza Bernardino, Julie Marie Muyco and Baby Jane Raro combined for a no-hit, no-run, no-error game for the multi-titled Lady Falcons who are seeking their third straight championship in the annual tournament previously known as the Ateneo Invitational Championship.

Making use of the second stringers in her star-laden lineup most of the time, all, except one, fielded in by coach Ana Santiago connected in a 16-hit attack against Elizabeth Taynec.

Shortstop Queenie Sabobo went perfect in two trips at the plate and had one run-batted-in while rookie pinchhitters Lorna Adorable and Andrea Mae Gonzales also drove in three runs and two runs, respectively.

Luzviminda Embudo and Elvie Entrina singled and doubled in a combined five runs between them to the delight of crowd in the inaugurals of the 12-team, one-round series sponsored by Cebuana Lhuillier, Cebuana Pera Padala, Le Soleil de Boracay, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, Just Jewels and Phiten.

University of the East went on a three-run binge in the opening frame and fashioned out a 3-1 victory over University of Santo Tomas.

University of the Philippines also made mincemeat of Bulacan State University in another abbreviated contest, 11-l, that lasted only four innings.

The Lady Falcons had the game under wraps as early as in the upper half of the opening frame where they scored a three-run binge on a pair of base-hits courtesy of Abobo and Enterina aided by a pair of miscues by their rivals.
