Pacquiao camp anticipating Rios fight?
MANILA, Philippines – It looks like the camp of fighting congressman Manny Pacquiao is anticipating a future bout against Mexican banger Brandon Rios even as the Filipino boxer prepares for the Juan Manuel Marquez match.
Philboxing’s Ed de la Vega said Pacquiao’s Canadian adviser Michael Koncz was spotted at ringside watching the Rios-Mike Alvarado fight, which was the main supporting bout of the Donaire-Nishioka card.
According to De la Vega, Koncz may have been scouting Rios, who could be Pacquiao’s opponent in April next year if the Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight fails to materialize.
“Koncz just don’t go to see fights for nothing. He is a businessman... That is why he is in the boxing game,” said De la Vega.
Pacquiao, however, will have to beat Marquez first when they meet for the fourth time on December 8.
Prior the Rios-Alvarado fight, Arum has already mentioned Rios’ name in connection with Pacquiao. He said the Filipino boxer will have to be an “animal” when dealing with a brawler like Rios.
"The public will go crazy for that fight... Manny will have to become an animal himself,” said Arum.
Even Rios wanted to fight Pacquiao, claiming that he can beat the eight-division champion.
"Pacquiao's an in-and-out guy. But you know what? Like I always do, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. taught me very well. Break the body down and the head will fall down," said Rios.
