MANILA, Philippines - TV host Drew Arellano will go from marathon and Ironman 70.3 to off-road triathlon as he represents the country in the Xterra World Championship on Oct. 28 in Maui, Hawaii.

The 32-year-old Arellano competed in the Paris Marathon early this year, the Ironman 70.3 in Lapu Lapu City in Cebu last August and plans to add the Xterra race in his long race resume.

“I’m doing like about 20 races a year, whether it’s a marathon, triathlon and even extreme races like the Ironman – you name it – and I’ll join because it’s already a lifestyle for me,” said Arellano in yesterday’s press briefing.

Arellano has done the full Ironman, a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bike and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run race considered as the toughest of all, twice. The first was in 2009 in Western Australia and the other the year later in Ayala-Alabang as well as the Ironman 70.4 organized by Alaska and Sunrise’s Fred Uytengsu in Camsur.

One of the Ironman events he competed in was held for a cause, particularly to raise funds for Gabriel’s Symphony, of Sen. Pia Cayetano’s foundation, to help making lives of sick unfortunate babies and children better.
