Petron's Cabagnot '50-50' for Game 4
MANILA – Petron’s starting point guard Alex Cabagnot may not be able to play for the Blaze Boosters on Friday for Game 4 of the PBA Governors Cup Finals against San Mig Coffee.
Petron coach Gee Abanilla told Joaquin Henson of the Philippine Star that Cabagnot is nursing a foot injury and thus remains doubtful for tonight’s game.
“Alex is 50-50 to play, we’re monitoring the swelling in his foot as he has a slight tear in his plantar fasciitis,” Abanilla said, adding that Chico Lanete is also a “game-time decision” as he is undergoing platelet-rich plasma treatment “to speed up the healing of his hamstring strain.”
Abanilla said Cabagnot’s injuru was caused by “football tripping,” which was caught on video.
“When Alex is bringing up the ball, his defender sticks out his foot, it’s a style used by point guards before. I think it’s dangerous. Referees should be aware of it. We don’t want to risk Alex’ career so we’re not rushing him back. We’re looking closely at the swelling of his foot. He may or may not play in Game 4,” he told Henson.
Despite this, the rookie PBA head coach said the Blaze Boosters are focused on a win tonight at the Mall of Asia Arena, boosted by their 90-68 rout of the Coffee Mixers last Wednesday.
“We’re happy about our win in Game 3 but it takes four wins to clinch a best-of-seven series,” Abanilla told Henson. “We’re just ahead, 2-1, we haven’t achieved anything yet. If we win tonight, we’ll come closer to ending it. We’ll ignore distractions, we’ll keep our focus.”
