Fan wants life ban on Arboleda
PBA to craft stringent measures
MANILA, Philippines - Alain Katigbac, the PBA fan beaten by Burger King guard Wynne Arboleda, wants his attacker banned for life from the PBA and other cage leagues.
Katigbac, through his lawyer Jose Angelo Agcaoili, has drafted an administrative complaint addressed to PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios recommending Arboleda’s lifetime suspension.
Agcaoili has also prepared criminal charges and damage suit to be filed against Arboleda.
“This incident should be severely dealt with. Otherwise, Wynne Arboleda and players with similar inclinations will never learn the meaning and correct definition of ‘sportsmanship,’” said Agcaoili.
This developed as the Philippine Basketball Association is now looking into crafting security measures that would prevent repetition of the sorry incident.
PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios said they will institute protocol geared towards responsible fan behavior and game watching.
Agcaoili said his client is still in mental anguish and in shock as a result of Arboleda’s vicious attack.
“His parents, who are both in their senior years, had elevated blood pressure after seeing the incident. His wife, who is six months pregnant, shook violently after seeing the incident on television and on the internet and continues to have chills as a result,” Agcaoili said.
“His family is still in total shock and in complete fear and indignation over how a professional basketball player in the country’s premiere league can behave in a manner as Wynne Arboleda did,” Agcaoili added.
Arboleda, however, said he’s ready to face Katigbac in court.
The hard-nosed BK player said they will file counter-charge against Katigbac.
“I lost my source of livelihood because of him. I will not allow him to totally destroy me,” Arboleda told The STAR.
Arboleda said he was provoked in committing the act.
“He cursed me no end in front of my family,” said Arboleda, who was suspended for the rest of the season without pay.
Last season, Marlou Aquino, Danny Ildefonso and Marc Pingris were meted penalty as they also figured in a fight with fans. The three were restrained before getting to the fan.
“I’d like to look at the positive side out of this ugly incident. We’ll undertake program on responsible game watching. It’s about respecting each other and conducting ourselves in the highest integrity,” said Barrios.
“We’ll sit down with the Araneta Coliseum management to craft arrangements not only on security but protocol on fan behavior. Among the players, I doubt if someone else would do something like this with the severe penalty (imposed on Arboleda),” Barrios added.
The proposed measures are likely to be presented to the PBA board of governors as it holds its regular meeting for the month of October tomorrow.
Barrios admitted there’s a lapse in security in that particular Friday incident.
“Maybe what we can do is make house rules like alerting security personnel of unruly behavior of fans. They should be restrained and if they don’t stop, they would be asked to leave,” said Barrios.
On Arboleda’s plan to appeal his long suspension, Barrios said it’s within his rights.
“I can’t deny him that. We just have to wait if he pursues it and how he will present his appeal. I don’t want to prejudge him,” Barrios said.
The league commissioner, however, stressed he studied the matter thoroughly before making the verdict.
“I’d like to assure everyone we arrived at the decision not in a very cavalier or whimsical way,” he said.

Fair Judgement
I think yung parusa kay Arboleda is enough para magtanda sya na hindi nya dapat ituon ang init ng ulo nya at saktan ang fans kahit ba sabihing pinagmumura sya ng fans na ito, Ang mga fans ang bumubuhay sa inyong mga basketball player tandaan nyo. Bakit kung wala bang nanood na mga fans e babayaran kayo ng milyon milyon ng mga teams nyo para maglaro kayo? Mr. Katigbak has no right also to order the PBA to ban Arboleda for life dahil lahat ay dapat bigyan ng chance na magbago and meron din naman syang kasalanan dahil he provoke Arboleda to do it to him. Kung gusto nya ng justice e dapat magsamapa sya sa korte para malaman kung sino talaga ang me kasalanan. Mr. Barrios has no right to impose also strictness in part of the fans, why gusto ba nyang mag declare ng martial law sa PBA? di mapipigilan ng sino man ang mga fans sa feelings nila dahil fans nga sila lalo na yung mga die hard fans kaya sana hwag ng pag aksayahin ng panahon ni Mr. Barrios yung sinasabi nyang lapses ng security.
Yup! Mr. Katigbak deserving for Ban not Arboleda?
Dapat maging specific ang rules? masyado lang nagpasipsip sa mga fans si Mr. barrios? but the truth is you cannot deny that we need to know how this incident happen? kung hindi naging bastos si mr. Katigbak akala mo ba Mr. Barrios susugurin ni Arboleda yon? Mr. Arboleda has lose control because of that foul mouthed fan? we are human are not saints? kahit sinong tao nasa lugar ni Mr. Arboleda para kang tinutunaw at lumilitaw sa hangin kapag nakakarinig ka ng ganung pambabastos sa gitna ng hardcourt at maraming tao? yep! were talking about professional player here but we need also a professional fan not like Mr. Katigbak?- nakakahiya ka sa tingin ko may pinag-aralan ka naman siguro pero yong pambabastos na ginawa mo kay Mr. Arboleda isipin kuns sayo sinasabi yon? wag ka nang pa epek dahil sa totoo lang mali ka nman talaga? nakalalaki ka na nambabastos ka eh takot ka palang mabugbog eh? tingnan mo ung mukha mo sa tv parang asong ulol na tahol na tahol? bahag ang buntot? magpaka lalaki ka? try to respect others!... hindi ka bah tinuruan ng mga magulang mo or sa paaralan kung paano mag respeto sa kapwa?,,,,,,,back to school bro tulog ka yata habang nag-aaral kung nag-aral ka man?.....
Never EVER attack a Fan
It is wrong to attack a fan. Period. Kahit gaano kabastos or gago iyong fan.
Playing 100% is not an excuse to hit an unruly fan. Kung ayaw mong binabastos, huwag kang maging public figure. Kasama sa trabaho iyan.
Arboleda could have handled this 2 ways:
-Inform the coaching staff during a timeout to inform security about the unruly fan
-Get back at him by playing your best game. Michael Jordan's greatest games were played at his opponent's stadium. The best revenge is winning and embarassing your opponent by playing and hustling better.
Ngayon kung lifetime ban ang pag uusapan, di lang si Arboleda ang dapat e ban, pati rin si Katigbac para fair.

Dapat si Catigbak ang e lifetime Ban sa panonood ng PBA games Live. Hindi dapat parusahan ng mabigat si Wynne kasi hindi siya susugod nang basta2x lang na walang rason. Kahit sinong player talagang mapipikon sa mga sinsabi ng Fans.

The PBA should be thankful that they are the only professional basketball league in the country..if i have a son aspiring to play for the PBA i might think twice.i would not want my child to experinece this kind of insults that may also cause also legal problems. all because he was provoked by a stupid fan just like what mr.katigbak did...what kind of protection does the league have for its own players for this types of fans?it is wrong to always look after the protection of the fans and not of the players..i agree to the previous post,may be that is also why some players just play for the money and not for the sport...i hope the commissioner would do everything to act on this problem..ano ata mangyari kung wlang mag-apply s annual draft nyo(as if mangyayari un!)
