Baylon seeks berth for world martial arts tilt
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino judoka John Baylon seeks a qualification for the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) world submission championships as he competes at the qualifying trials in November in Pasay City.
"John (Baylon) has already confirmed his participation in the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Asia-Pacific World Qualifying Trials on November 3 and 4," said ADCC Asia President Stephen Khampis.
Khampis said the winner in the advanced Male division will move to 2013 ADCC World Championships.
The Philippine-based Khampis, a look-a-like of action star Jean-Claude Van Damme, said Filipino martial arts fighters have big potential to achieve success in international competitions.
"He’s (Khampis) doing a lot for the Filipinos," said Michael Mejia, a lawyer by profession who will compete in the beginners category.
Martial artists from Australia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Guam, Thailand, Malaysia and Hong Kong are expected to compete.
