MANILA, Philippines – World super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr., who recently defeated Japanese star Toshiaki Nishioka, will be fighting again before year end.

ABS-CBN Vice President for Sports Peter Musngi said “The Filipino Flash” will be making his ring return on December 15 against Mexican champion Jorge Arce.

The fight takes place at Arce’s turf in Mexico.

“From our good friend Bob Arum on the phone, he said that the next fight of Nonito will be on December 15 in Mexico against Jorge Arce,” said Musngi during ABS-CBN Sports’ press conference for Donaire.

Musngi, who works with Arum’s Top Rank in airing Donaire’s fights locally, said the formal announcement of the Arce fight is expected to come out on Monday.

Donaire, who arrived in Manila on Saturday, was delighted with the development.

“That’s good news,” he said. “Excited na excited ako to face the next best fighter. Si Arce talagang matapang ‘yun, reading-ready na ko dun.”

Donaire retained his World Boxing Organization (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight titles via a 9th-round stoppage against Nishioka.

With the win, he also gained ownership of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Diamond and the RING Magazine super bantamweight crowns.

However, Donaire suffered an injury in his left hand during his title clash against Nishioka.

The Filipino Flash said there is nothing to worry about his injury which is likely to get fully healed by December.

“Sabi naman ng doctor na OK lang kung may laban ako sa December,” said Donaire.

Donaire also promoted his Visayan movie “Palad Ta Ang Nagbuot” (Our Fate Decides), which will be shown on local theaters starting October 31.

Palad Ta Ang Nagbuot is a remake of the Visayan film that starred the late boxing champion Gabriel “Flash” Elorde.
