The Ginebra Gin Kings is set to clash with sister team San Miguel Beermen on Wednesday at the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup. Both teams will try to do without their key players whom they lost to injuries.

A report posted on SportsNews.ph said San Miguel will enter the main feature without Mike Cortez.

The Beermen’s point guard will undergo surgery after sustaining ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury during their latest scrimmage against Talk ‘N Text.

The Beermen handed Talk 'N Text a second straight loss, 84-77, last Friday.

Coach Siot Tanquingcen also said Danny Seigle also underwent MRI as the former Rookie of the Year is suspected to be suffering from a pinched nerve in his leg.

“We would keep going no matter what the circumstances, so it’s going to be a battle of will basically,” Tanquingcen said over radio dzSR’s Sports Chat.

“Ginebra is Ginebra. Kulang man kami sila o complete, mahirap silang kalaban because they keep coming at you no matter what the situation is,” he added.

The Gin Kings, meanwhile, will continue to miss the services of Rafi Reavis, Billy Mamaril and Mark Caguioa as well as Ronald Tubid and Junthy Valenzuela.

“We prepare the best we can and might be able to come up with surprises,” said Gins coach Jong Uichico.

After starting the conference with two upset wins, Barangay Ginebra tasted its first loss of the season, a 100-94 decision over erstwhile winless Red Bull 100-94 last Sunday.

In Wednesday’s first game, the Coca-Cola Tigers will face a tough challenge as they battle defending champion Sta. Lucia Realtors.

Wednesday last week, Coca-Cola was back to its losing ways, dropping a 95-84 decision to erstwhile winless Air21 last Friday.

Sta. Lucia, on the other hand, claimed a 69-66 win over last year’s Finals rival Purefoods in Panabo City, Davao del Norte last Saturday.
