Quiet Narvaez ready for Donaire
MANILA, Philippines - World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight champion Omar Narvaez of Argentina is undefeated through 34 professional bouts and is a legend in his home country.
Yet, he is seen as the underdog going into his October 22 bout against Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire.
Narvaez has been quietly preparing and training at the Affinia Hotel Gym in New York City, according to PhilBoxing.com.
So low-key is the Argentinian champion that he reportedly asked a Top Rank official to leave because he did not want to be disturbed while training.
The fight with Donaire, the WBO and WBC bantamweight champion, will be Narvaez's first bout outside of Argentina, and his first time fighting at the 118-pound division as well.
According to Fight News, Narvaez is already close to making the weight and is in good physical condition.
But a member of Team Donaire, former light welterweight champion Morris East, is confident that "The Filipino Flash" will give Narvaez his first defeat.
Donaire has been the more visible fighter leading up to the bout, as he has conducted several public workouts including an open training session in Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn.
ABS-CBN will air the Donaire vs Narvaez fight card on Sunday, starting 10:15 a.m. on Channel 2.
