Stellar cast vies in Philta nat'l netfest
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s leading junior netters and rising stars gear up for a battle royale as they slug it out in the Philta Palawan Pawnshop National Championship beginning Oct. 26 at the Gov. Socrates Tennis Club in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
Jerome Romualdez, Jacob Martin, Marcus and Miguel del Rosario, Michael Francis and Alex Eala and Mia Balce and Maribelle Bangayan head the Luzon cast in the six-day tournament which gathers the top finishers in the various regional tournaments of the Philta-Palawan Pawnshop Regional Age-Group Championships presented by Babolat.
“This is the showdown of the best players from each region where we held our series of tournaments,” said Bobby Castro, COO of Palawan Pawnshop, the chief backer of the year-long, nationwide talent-search. “We are very happy for the big response of the youth as well as their parents to our series of tournaments.”

Events on tap are the boys and girls’ 12-, 14-, 16- and 18-and-under and the 10-unisex divisions.
“Technosports and Babolat will continue to support this worthwhile project and next year’s nationwide circuit where we hope to discover and train talents for future national teams,” said Guillermo Nocom, president of Technosports, exclusive distributor of Babolat equipment.
He added that the circuit offers free tennis officiating seminar and a series of clinics conducted by Philta’s top coaches along with tournaments for parents and members of host club as side events.
Other NCR bets are Nio Tria, Marcen and Cenon Gonzales, Manuel Balce, Diego and Julian Dayrit, Camile, Mariel and Mia So and Alexie Bangayan.
They will be up against the top players from Cebu headed by Jan Godfrey Seno, Cesar and Kristin Salimbangon, Jana Pages and Em Siso while Matthew Crisosto and Luke and Matthew Flores banner the Iloilo group.
Also vying for top honors are Avrille Sacapano from Boracay, Fernando Arguelles, Fernando and Alekzander Po from Bacolod, La Carlota’s Karl Baran and Keanna Flores, Davao’s John Bryan Otico, Kidapawan City’s John Estrellado, Sultan Kudarat’s Carlyn Bless Guarde and Iriga’s Vincent Alanis and Jan Harold Trillanes.
Alexie and Sebastian Santos and Kryshanna Hitosis, meanwhile, will carry the cudgels for the host city.
