Donaire says he won't turn his back on boxing
Filipino Flash ‘just enjoying showbiz’
MANILA, Philippines – Super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr. assured fight fans that he won’t leave boxing just yet following his foray into show business.
Donaire is starring in the Visayan independent film "Palad Ta Ang Nagbuot" (Our Fate Decides), with veteran actress Gloria Sevilla, Max Surban, Mon Confiado and several others.
The movie, a remake of a 1969 classic that starred the late Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, will be shown in local theaters starting October 31.
But this doesn’t mean that Donaire will be shifting careers soon.
“Boxing ang nagbigay sa akin ng lahat. Kaya nandito ako dahil sa boxing. Lahat ng gamit, everything… from the food that I eat, the shoes that I wear, clothes, house, cars that I drive, it’s because of boxing,” said Donaire.
“So priority ko ang boxing kasi mahal na mahal ko ang sport ng boxing,” he stressed.
Donaire explained that acting is more like a hobby, adding that he enjoys spending time with his co-stars.
“With showbiz, it’s something that I enjoy. Iba talaga ng feeling mo, iba talaga ang challenge. For now masayang masaya ako to be in showbiz,” he said.
