MANILA, Philippines – Mexican warrior Daniel "Canerito" Ruiz wants one more shot at Filipino fighter Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista after he lost in their featherweight clash in the undercard of Pinoy Pride XVII last Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Bautista and Ruiz went toe-to-toe for 12 rounds with neither fighter getting much of an advantage. Though Ruiz staggered Bautista in the third round, "Boom Boom" came back strong and was able to last the distance.

Bautista would go on to win via split decision with scores of 116-112, 115-113, and 113-115.

In an interview with PhilBoxing's Mike Lopez, Ruiz said both he and the fans deserve a rematch.

"I want a rematch. I deserve it and also the fans. I was off my weight due to the inconsistency of the scale at the hotel and I fought like a warrior even wearing 10-ounce gloves," he said.

Ruiz came into the fight three pounds over the weight limit and was tasked to wear heavier globes. He claimed, however, that it was because of the inconsistent scale at the hotel.

"I was never hurt in this fight," Ruiz said. "The fans saw what I did to Bautista. I want a rematch. I hope ALA Promotions will bring me back for a rematch."

Despite his disappointment over the loss, Ruiz was thankful to ALA Promotions and said the Philippines "was the best place I ever fought."

Bautista won the vacant World Boxing Organization international featherweight title in the bout.
