Lady Tams maul Eagles in V-League
MANILA – The Far Eastern University Lady Tams repelled Ateneo-OraCare, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19 to score its third win in the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 second conference at The Arena in San Juan City Friday.
According to V-League.ph, guest player Rachel Daquis posted 22 hits, including 18 attacks while Shaira Gonzalez scores 21 points.
The Lady Tams, however, needed to put up a stronger defense in the third and fourth sets to beat the Lady Eagles and boost their quarterfinal bid.
“We made adjustments in defense and reception in the last two sets that’s why we were able to bounce back from our loss in the second set,” said FEU coach Nes Pamilar.
FEU is now just a win away behind first quarterfinalist UST. On the other hand, Ateneo’s loss is its second straight after routing University of the Philippines.
Cherry Vivas added 17 points including 3 blocks for FEU, which is priming up for a tough game against newly crowned NCAA champion San Sebastian on Saturday.
Ateneo’s Fille Cainglet scored a career-high 20 points including 4 blocks while guest players Charo Soriano and Angeline Gervacio finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
San Sebastian, meanwhile, reasserted its mastery over St. Benilde, 25-21, 25-19, 25-14, in the second game.
Elaine Cruz, Margarita Pepito and Joy Benito combined for 39 points for the Lady Stags' second straight victory in the league.
St. Benilde, led by Katty Kwan and Charmaine Velez’s combined 22-point output, fell to 0-2 in a tie with Lyceum.
