Donaire shrugs off Arce's hometown advantage
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxing champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. said he has no problem giving the hometown advantage to Mexican Jorge Arce.
Donaire, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Council (WBC) Diamond super bantam king, said he is not afraid to take on Arce before thousands of Mexican fans.
The fight is tentatively scheduled on December 15 in Mexico City, with Top Rank’s Bob Arum finalizing the details.
"I am not afraid to fight anybody. If Bob Arum will confirm tomorrow that December 15 will be my next fight. So be it," Donaire said in Examiner.
Donaire is coming off a successful title defense against Toshiaki Nishioka, whom he topped in nine rounds.
However, he sustained a wound in his left hand during the fight and required at least eight stitches.
Donaire is hopeful that his hand heals before the December bout.
"My doc told me to rest my left hand for a month. I still have the condition. I will just keep it and then go intense after," said the Filipino.
