Kaya blasts Dolphins, seizes UFL solo lead
MANILA, Philippines - Kaya went on a scoring binge in the second half to rout Dolphins United FC, 7-0, and seize the solo lead in Group B of the United Football League Cup at the Nomads Sports Club Sunday night.
Nate Burkey and Jonah Romero came through with a brace each with the former scoring his double in a span of two minutes starting on the 65th and Romero delivering on the 53rd and 79th to cap the romp and lift the LBC-backed Kaya booters to the lead with 10 points on three wins and a draw.
Antonio Ugarte also turned in a brace, the first giving Kaya the early lead on the 37th minute and the other on the 72nd.
Jose Elmer Porteria accounted for the other goal on the 59th minute.
Kaya’s win also dropped idle Green Archers United Globe to No. 2 with seven points on two wins and a deadlock.
In other results, Laos FC held Mendiola FC 1991 to a 1-1 standoff while Sta. Lucia FC bashed Agila FC, 3-0.
Christopher Edim Pedimonte knocked in a goal on the 47th minute for Mendiola but Kenshiro Michael Daniels countered on the 69th to help Laos escape with a draw.
Sta. Lucia, on the other hand, leaned on a pair of goals by Korean Lee Dong Bin on the 20th and 31st minutes to post a 2-0 lead at the half before Jean Clarino scored on the 72nd to complete the rout.
It was Laos and Mendiola’s first point while Sta. Lucia barged into the win column to improve with four points.
