Pacquiao forces sparmate to quit in 3 rounds
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao has kicked off his sparring sessions for the Juan Manuel Marquez fight in December.
In his first session, Pacquiao battered sparring partner Anthony “Rocky” Marcial at Rey Golingan’s boxing gym in General Santos City, according to Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.
Marcial, who has a record of 18 wins -- with 17 knockouts -- and one defeat, was forced to quit after absorbing a “series of rapid-fire, power punches from Pacquiao.”
Gym owner Golingan said Pacquiao looks "very serious and is training hard” for the December 8 fight against Marquez.
Pacquiao already had three close fights against the counterpunching specialist, winning two and drawing one. All of their fights, however, ended in controversy which is why Pacquiao wants to settle the issue.
"This fight is going to be a great fight because I want to erase all doubt for the fans of boxing," the fighting congressman said earlier.
"There are so many people saying if I really won the fight, and I said, 'Yes, I won the fight no doubt.'"
"But Marquez claims he won the fight, so I think something is wrong," Pacquiao added.
