Filipina runner defends KoTR title in Malaysia
MANILA, Philippines – Filipina runner Mary Grace Delos Santos was recently crowned the Queen of the Road in the final leg of the adidas King of the Road (KOTR) Southeast Asia, clocking in one hour and three minutes for the 16.8-km distance.
Over 11,000 runners came together in Malaysia to participate in the last leg, held along the New Pantai Expressway. The run was officially flagged off by Y. Bhg. Dato’ Mohd Shafiq B. Abdullah of the Ministry of Works.
The run featured a unique elevated route across three key districts – Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur.
The top two reigning champions from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia came together to compete in this year’s regional adidas KOTR run.
Delos Santos was triumphant in the women’s category, while Thailand’s Sgt Boonthung Srisung won the crown in the men’s division after finishing the 16.8-km route in 52 minutes and 32 seconds.
Delos Santos earned her ticket to the finals by being the defending champion of last year’s KOTR Southeast Asia, which was held in Singapore.
Filipino runners Eduardo Buenavista and Mary Joy Tabal also qualified to the finals after winning the Philippine leg of the KOTR earlier this year. Tabal finished the marathon a minute behind Delos Santos.
