Ateneo subdues Lyceum in Shakey’s V-League

Ateneo got the much needed firepower from its guest players and rookies and beat Lyceum in the Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan.
A report posted on the tournament’s official website (www.v-league.ph) said Michelle Laborte and Ma. Rosario Soriano combined for 29 hits, including 25 kills that went through Lyceum’s defense.
Misha Quimpo also tossed in 12 for the Lady Eagles to help Ateneo bounce back from a failed title bid against the Adamson Lady Falcons in the first conference.
“Charo (Soriano) still got the killer’s instinct, but she’s far from her top form while Micmic (Laborte) played well, especially in blocking,” said Ateneo coach Clint Malazo.
The Loyola-based squad also got splendid performances from Fille Cainglet, Angeline Gervacio and Jem Ferrer, who scored 16 hits among themselves, including 10 from Cainglet.
“The veterans and the rookies played with cohesion. They struggled in the third but they were able to put their act together in the fourth,” said Malazo.
With the win, Ateneo shares the lead in Shakey's V-League with UST and La Salle.
