Corteza last unbeaten Pinoy in US Open 9-Ball
MANILA -- Southeast Asian Games gold medallist Lee Van “The Slayer” Corteza extended his winning run this time against Briton Imram Majid to remain in contention for the US Open 9-Ball title at the Chesapeake Conference Center in Chesapeake, Virginia.
According to BilliardPhilipines.com, Corteza scored 11-5 against Majid to become the last Filipino standing in the winner’s bracket of the tournament which offers a $100,000 top prize to the champion.
The Davao City ace Corteza, score his six straight wins and the last Filipino standing in the winner’s brackets of this $100,000 champion’s purse 256 player’s tournament.
Filipino pool legend Jose “Amang” Parica suffered his second loss to former World 9-ball king Johnny “Scorpion” Archer of the US, 11-5.
He thus joined Ronato “Volcano” Alcano, Al Lapena, Warren Kiamco and latest Filipino casualties Marlon “Marvelous” Manalo towards the exit.
Two other Filipino bets Roberto “Pinoy Superman” Gomez and Ramil “Bebeng” Gallego are still fighting it out in the loser’s bracket.
