MANILA, Philippines - The NCAA management committee yesterday demanded written apologies from Letran coach Louie Alas and referee supervisor Romy Guevara on or before Friday's deciding Game Three between San Beda and Letran at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum to avoid league sanctions.

"The NCAA Management Committee has asked for a written apology letter from NCAA Technical Committee head Romy Guevara to be submitted as soon as possible (before Friday)," said La Salle-Greenhills' Dax Castellano, who chaired the committee after Mancom chair Fr. Vic Calvo, OP, of Season 88 host Letran inhibited himself from the case.

"Same thing for Letran coach Louie Alaska, a written apology to be submitted as soon as possible. Failure to do so by both will merit one-game suspension," he added.

The decision came after Mancom upheld the recommendation of commissioner Joe Lipa demanding a public apology from Alas for his "slit throat" gesture against the referees in Saturday's Game Two at the Big Dome or face a possible suspension in Game Three.

Alas had actually apologized to the league board Monday, saying he's "sorry for his actuations" and stressed that he "meant no disrespect" to Lipa, Guevara and the rest of the game officials.

But the league wants Alas and Guevara to make formal their respective apologies.

Guevera, meanwhile, failed to show up in his schedule meeting with Mancom yesterday. He was also summoned after making an obscene gesture towards the Letran bench at the end of the game.

Alas said he will submit to the decision of the board while stressing he didn’t mean to disrespect anyone.

"I'm very sorry for my actuation. Tinawag lang yun ng pagkakataon (The situation forced me to do it). I'm just doing my job, I'm always for the welfare of my team," Alas said.
