Pacquiao vows to be in LA on Oct. 27
MANILA – Fighting Congressman Manny Pacquiao is finishing his training in General Santos City and will soon head to Los Angeles for the remaining part of his camp for the Juan Manuel Marquez fight.
Pacquiao who has postponed his trip to the US twice already, said he needs to be at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym on October 27 for the crucial stage of his preparations.
"Tuloy na sa October 27 kasi ‘yung date na ‘yun dapat nasa Wild Card na. Wala nang delay ito,” the Filipino superstar told Philboxing’s Eddie Alinea.
(I should be there on October 27, on that date I should be at the Wild Card. I can’t delay this further.)
Pacquiao was supposed to leave for the US first week of October.
But he decided to spend the initial phase of his training in General Santos City to attend to pressing matters in his province.
“By that time kasi, six weeks na lang ang nalalabi sa ensayo. ‘Pag na-delay pa, masyado nang malaki ang atraso," said Pacquiao.
(By the time I arrive there, there will be only six weeks left for training. Delaying the trip further will affect our preparations.)
His boxing promoter, Bob Arum, earlier voiced his disappointment over Pacquiao’s decision to prolong his training in General Santos.
Arum said Pacquiao should prioritize boxing first because he will be having a tough assignment against Marquez.
“The politics will take care of itself when he finishes the fight with Marquez. But that's up to him," the promoter said, referring to Pacquiao’s other responsibility as Sarangani congressman.
Pacquiao has had three difficult fights against Marquez, and Arum said the Mexican will aim for the kill in the fourth bout.
"Each guy is going to go out for a knockout and it better be the best Manny Pacquiao that shows up," he said.
