UAAP Juniors: UE ahead in general championship race
MANILA – University of the East (UE), boosted by victories in taekwondo, table tennis and girls swimming, took the first-semester lead in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 juniors general championship race.
The Junior Warriors amassed 67 points to set the pace with defending champion University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) emerging joint second with identical 56 points.
The Tiger Cubs have not won any title in the first semester but were second placers in girls swimming, and third in boys swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and judo.
The Blue Eaglets, on the other hand, won boys swimming and judo and claimed a runner-up finish in basketball.
La Salle-Zobel is in fourth place with 54 points, followed by National University (27), Far Eastern University-Diliman (22), University of the Philippines Integrated School (18) and Adamson University (7).
The Junior Archers took second place finishes in swimming and judo, while the Bullpups, who participated in only two events, regained the basketball crown and secured a runner-up trophy in table tennis. The Baby Tamaraws wound up second in taekwondo and took third in basketball.
A championship is worth 15 points, second place 12, third 10 points, fourth eighth points, fifth six points, sixth four points, seventh two points and eighth one point.
