Kenyans rule in Subic marathon

MANILA – Almost 1,000 runners dashed in the Subic International Marathon (SIM) held over the weekend, while 7,000 competed in the event’s shorter races.
Kenyan Vincent Chepsiror ruled the men’s division while his fellow Kenyan Doreen Kitaka won in the women’ division. They got $5,000 each.
The full marathon kicked off at the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) toll in Floridablanca, Pampanga and ended at the Remy Field in Subic.
Chepsiror ended the race with a time of 2:27.54 and Doreen Kitaka closed her run in 3:01.12, The Philippine Star reported.
Hernani Sore (2:40.20) and Ailene Tolentino (3:29.01) were the top Filipino finishers.
Chepsiror was followed by 6 of his countrymen before Sore turned up at the finish line.
Meanwhile, members of the Smart-Gilas Pilipinas basketball team were spotted competing in the fun run. – With reports from Bill Velasco, ABS-CBN News and Abac Cordero, The Philippine Star
