MANILA - American tennis legends Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi resumed their rivalry in Macau where Sampras emerged the victor in 3 sets on Sunday.

Sampras won over Agassi, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8, in an exhibition match held at the Venetian Macao Hotel. The decider set was a tiebreaker.

Sampras led Agassi in the ATP Tour head-to-head, 20-14. They last faced off at the 2002 US Open final where Sampras clinched his 14th grand slam title with a 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win.

Sampras, 38, used to hold the record for the most number of grand slam championships (14), but this was broken by World No. 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland (15 grand slam titles) in July when he ruled Wimbledon.

Agassi, meantime, has 8 grand slam titles. The 39-year-old is among the 6 male tennis players who have won all 4 grand slams (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open).

Federer recently joined the elite group when he won the French Open in June. The other male players who achieved a career grand slam are Rod Laver, Fred Perry, Don Budge and Roy Emerson. – With a report from Agence France-Presse
