Pacquiao now back to his fearsome form, says Arum
MANILA, Philippines – After seeing Manny Pacquiao in training, Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum said fight fans are likely to witness the best version of Pacquiao in recent years.
During a recent teleconference with the boxing media, Arum said that training in General Santos City has suited Pacquiao well.
As a result, he said, Pacquiao seemed to have reincarnated into the same fighter that defeated Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.
“Manny, to me, looks more dedicated than ever and General Santos City is the perfect place for him to train. He concentrates on nothing but his training,” said Arum in conference call transcript posted on Philboxing.
According to the boxing promoter, this means Brandon Rios will be getting more than he bargained for when he clashes with Pacquiao on November 23.
“I think the Manny Pacquiao you are going to see on November 23rd and going to be perhaps better than the Manny Pacquiao we saw against De La Hoya, Hatton and Cotto,” said Arum.
For his part, Pacquiao said the long layoff from boxing has served him well.
The Filipino fighter was forced to several months’ rest after getting knocked out during his bout against Juan Manuel Marquez. This enabled him to recharge his batteries before returning to training for the Rios fight.
“The year off has been good and I am very excited to get back into the ring and fight and to do it for the fans. I feel very fresh, strong and fast,” said Pacquiao.
