San Sebastian College (SSC) hammered out a tough win against Ateneo after losing the first set during Sunday's game at the Shakey’s V-League Second Conference held at the Blue Eagles' gym.
The three-time NCAA champs were able to even their win-loss slate to 1-1 by pounding out a 24-26, 25-13, 25-19, 25-18 over host Ateneo.
A report posted on V-league.ph said Suzanne Roces scattered 19 hits while Rysabelle Devanadera and Laurence Ann Latigay combined for 26 points as the Lady Stags stamped their class over their Ateneo counterparts.
“We had a hard time attacking because they played good defense, but we were able to adjust in the second set and I’m satisfied with the result of their game,” said SSC coach Roger Gorayeb.
Atenean rookie Fille Cainglet scored 12 hits for the Lady Eagles.
The Loyola based-squad, however, missed the services of Michelle Laborte in the second and third sets due to cramps. She finished with nine points along with Denise Acevedo and Angeline Gervacio while former top player Charo Soriano added eight.
Ateneo, which now has a 1-1 win-loss card, will try to rebound from the loss by facing La Salle at The Arena in San Juan City Tuesday.
Laborte is expected to be back in form when both team face off at 4 p.m.
Stephanie Mercado, daughter of former Asian track queen Lydia de Vega-Mercado, is expected to lead the La Salle squad again.
The Lady Archers, which is coming off a three-set sweep of the Lyceum Pirates, is leading the standings at 3-0.
