Pacquiao mum on KO predictions

Posted at 10/27/2009 10:00 AM | Updated as of 10/29/2009 1:38 PM

MANILA – While members of Team Pacquiao declared with certainty that the pound-for-pound king will knock out Miguel Cotto on November 14, Manny Pacquiao refused to predict the outcome of his “Firepower” bout.

“Mahirap magsabi nang tapos eh. Di naman natin alam anong mangyayari. Dasal lang tayo sa Lord. Ano man mangyari, idasal na lang natin kung mapabilis o mapaaga or... matapos yung round. Siya lang nakakaalam eh,” Pacquiao told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

He added: “Basta sa akin, training lang ako nang husto, dasal at pagkatiwala sa kaniya pagdating sa ring.”

Coach Freddie Roach said Pacquiao will KO Cotto in the first round. Conditioning coach Alex Ariza noted that Pacquiao can score a KO while adviser Mike Koncz said the KO would probably come in the later rounds.

Pacquiao is in Los Angeles, California where he will continue his training for two weeks. He started his training camp on Sept. 21 in Baguio City.

No oddity

According to “the People’s Champ,” he does not do anything strange when training for a fight, as opposed to his former rival Juan Manuel Marquez’s revelation that he drinks his urine.

If anything, the weight loss challenge which he started in 2008 could be counted as a “Pacquiao training camp tradition.”

“It’s postponed ‘til next year,” said Koncz, who bested 74 fellow participants in the weight loss challenge in April.

Each contestant was required to lose 10 percent of his or her body weight in 3 weeks for a cash prize of $3,000.

Pacquiao held weight challenges while training for his fights against Oscar de la Hoya in 2008 and Ricky Hatton in May.

Faith

But for Pacquiao, there is really nothing odd in his preparation for a fight.

“Kakaiba? Para sa akin, pray lang,” he said. “Nag-ro-rosary ako 9 days before the fight, straight yun, gabi-gabi. Nag-no-novena ako. Ako nag-le-lead nung prayer. Marami sa Team Pacquiao sumasali.”

“Dati matagal ko nang ginagawa yan... ginagawa ko yan tapos pagka araw ng fight, diba nagpapa-mass kami before the fight? Tapos after ng fight, win or lose yan, magpapa-mass din,” he related.

Pacquiao is aiming to win his 7th world title when he faces off with Cotto, the WBO welterweight champion, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The WBC diamond belt will also be at stake on Nov. 14.

Does God take sides?

Ang tanong ko lang naman simple? Nakakalito eh.

Let's say nagdasal din si Cotto before the fight katulad ni Manny - sino ang pakikinggan ang kahilingan? Yung mas mahaba ang prayer? Yung nag-rosary o hinde?

Si Mayweather daw sabi nya, "God doesnt want me to lose". Paano kapag naglaban sila ni Manny?? Sino mananalo?? So kapag hindi nanalo, God is not with him??

Boxing Please!!!!

Hi to all my Kababayans,

I understand that Rosary is not regulated by Church, as it's a personal devotion so if anybody is going to flame on the religion itself, please don't waste your time here and do so in other religion related issues.

Re: Great Fighter but wrong belief

can you please help me find the word "BIBLE" in the correct version of Bible - "King James Version."

Peace man!

FOR:EASY_SIEGE

WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE MANNY PACQUIAO OF WRONG RELIGIOUS BELIEFS???I DON'T THINK YOU ARE A ROMAN CATHOLIC,BECAUSE ALL ROMAN CATHOLICS SAY THE ROSARY IN VENERATION OF VIRGIN MARY! IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN SAYING OR PRAYING THE ROSARY OR NOVENA, THEN,KEEP IT TO YOURSELF...BUT YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO CRITICISE WHAT WE DEVOUT ROMAN CATHOLICS INCLUDING MANNY,BELIEVE IN...WE GLORIFY GOD THE FATHER AS WELL AS LORD JESUS CHRIST, VIRGIN MARY AND OTHER SAINTS CONTRARY TO WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN...JUST TALK ABOUT SPORTS BUT DON'T EVER CRITICISE OTHER PEOPLES' RELIGIOUS BELIEFS...

Re: Great Fighter but wrong belief

Kabayan, I know you are not a Catholic kaya ka nagsasalita ng ganyan about the Holy Rosary. Para sa akin what really matter is your faith kay Lord. God Is Good All The Time.

...

I am full blooded Filipino, and im one of the pinoy here in abroad cheering up with our great fighter every time he has a fight. This is just only a personal opinion & comments, so please dont take it so seriously. Thank you so much!

Great Fighter but wrong belief

I really admire Manny as a one the great fighter in the world & a very patriotic person. But on the other hand Manny has a wrong belief regarding the faith in our Lord. If our great fighter will read the Holy Scipture "BIBLE" with the correct version "KING JAMES VERSION" maybe he will know what i am really trying to explain. The word rosary is not found in the Bible, it is never mention as well. So i really had a doubt about his faith, because his faith is not Glorifying our Holy Father in Heaven. The true christian is not praying with that kind of thing "rosary" it came from the heart and having a faith with our Lord Jesus Christ.
