The La Salle Lady Archers strengthened their semis bid in Shakey’s V-League second conference as they vanquished their Atenean counterparts, 25-21, 25-15, 21-25, 26-24 at The Arena in San Juan City.

A report posted on SportsNews.ph said Jacqueline Alarca’s block against Ateneo rookie Angeline Gervacio sealed the win for La Salle, who held off their rivals in the first two sets.

La Salle now has a 4-0 win-loss slate while the Lady Eagles suffered their second setback in three outings.

"“It’s a good thing that Jacq (Alarca) stepped up,” said La Salle assistant coach Noel Orcullo.

Alarca finished with 20 hits while Manilla Santos added 14 points for the Lady Archers, who skipped the first conference to rebuild the team.

Charo Soriano, Ateneo’s guest alumna, combined with guest player Michelle Laborte and rookie Fille Cainglet and Gervacio in the third frame as the Lady Eagles tried to foil a La Salle sweep. The Lady Archers, however, came through despite Ateneo's efforts.

Earlier, San Sebastian College picked up its second consecutive win by beating Lyceum, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20, to stay behind unbeaten La Salle.

“What I need to see is consistency from my players. (Lou Ann) Latigay and Roces are still far from their fighting form,” said SSC coach Roger Gorayeb.

Joy Cases, Lyceum’s guest entry, scattered 12 hits while alumna Dahlia Cruz added 10 points for the Lady Pirates, who took their third straight setback.
