'No Mercy' Gesta may fight in Pac-Marquez card
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino lightweight Mercito "No Mercy" Gesta may be featured on the undercard of the HBO pay-per-view fight between rivals Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8 in Las Vegas.
According to a RingTV report, Gesta will most likely challenge Mexican boxer Miguel Vazquez for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight title.
The undefeated Gesta (26-0-1, 14 knockouts) last fought in August, defeating American Ty Barnett via a ninth round technical knockout.
Meanwhile, Vazquez is coming off a difficult fight against Marvin Quintero, which saw him win via split decision.
"We love the challenge Vazquez presents," Gesta's manager, Vincent Parra, told RingTV. "Mercito will be prepared for this fight. We will make him pay for every mistake."
RingTV reported that both camps have agreed to the terms of the fight and are just waiting for the contracts.
It will be the first time that Gesta is fighting for a world title.
