For 10-time world champion Oscar de la Hoya, no less than International Boxing Hall of Fame trainer Angelo Dundee fits the bill when it comes to preparing him for "The Dream Match" against Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao on December 6 in Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena.
On Thursday afternoon (early Friday morning in Manila), de la Hoya told a press conference in Los Angeles that he has enlisted the services of Dundee -- the architect of some of the greatest fighters of all time, including Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and George Foreman -- for his preparations at the Big Bear training camp in California.
"After working with Ali and Leonard, I think it's only fitting that I now get the chance to work with the most important fighter of this era," said Dundee. "This fight against Pacquiao is the biggest fight boxing has seen in years and I'm excited to be a part of it and to help lead Oscar to victory."
Dundee joins the bench of another legendary Mexican tactician -- Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain -- in the Golden Boy's team.
"I am honored to have Angelo Dundee on my team for the biggest fight of my career," said de la Hoya.
For the Golden Boy, Dundee's knowledge of the fight is "second to none" and would certainly complement Beristain's teachings.
This early, the boxer-turned-fight promoter said he already feels his team is unbeatable.
"His (Dundee) knowledge of the fight game is second to none, and along with Nacho Beristain, I feel like I have an unbeatable team in my corner for this fight against Pacquiao," de la Hoya said.
Strategist par excellance
As for Dundee's primary duties, de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, Inc. said that the legendary trainer will consult with the team regarding technique and strategy, do visits to the Big Bear camp and attend fight week events.

"While he will consult with De La Hoya and Beristain regarding fight strategy, he will not be working the corner during the fight, leaving Beristain as the lead strategist and sole voice in the corner on fight night," Golden Boy explained.
Aside from Ali, Leonard and Foreman, the Philadelphia native Dundee has trained the likes of champs Jimmy Ellis, Luis Rodriguez, Sugar Ramos, Ralph Dupas and Willie Pastrano.
According to the Boxing Hall of Fame Website, Dundee was hired to train Ali in 1960 and remained in the champ's corner until he clashed with Larry Holmes. Dundee has been credited as the man who helped Ali win some of his toughest fights.
Sixteen years after signing up with Ali, Dundee came to help shape Leonard's career.
"Again, Dundee was instrumental in building a boxing legend and hall-of-famer. Few boxing fans could ever forget his 'Your're blowing it son' pep talk to Leonard just before he knocked out Thomas Hearns to unify the welterweight crown," the Hall of Fame Website said of the legendary trainer.
He was also the trainer of Foreman in his victory against Michael Moorer for the heavyweight belt.
Dundee was named manager of the year twice -- in 1968 and 1979 -- by the Boxing Writers Association of America. He was also the recipient of the organizations Long and Meritorious Service Award in 1996.
