Cutman sees late stoppage win for Pacquiao
MANILA, Philippines – The cutman of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao respects Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios for his bravery, but believes that the Pacman will win their November 24 showdown in Macau via a late stoppage or a decision.
Speaking to Hustle Boss, trainer Miguel Diaz, who has worked as Pacquiao’s cutman in his recent bouts, cited the Filipino’s “experience and mobility” as the keys to victory.
“I think the experience and the mobility of Pacquiao will prevail in this fight,” said Diaz. “Rios is a very, very brave kid, but he’s always in front of you.”
Rios, a former lightweight champion, is known for his come-forward style and relentlessly puts pressure on his opponent. Diaz believes that this will work to Pacquiao’s advantage during their fight.
“Pacquiao is going to keep moving side to side, he’s going to throw combinations, and move around,” said Diaz. “Eventually, I see a decision for Pacquiao, or maybe a late stoppage.”
Diaz also guaranteed that Pacquiao is fully recovered from the stunning knockout he suffered at the hands of rival Juan Manuel Marquez last December.
“Pacquiao is a brave guy, a guy that was in the streets of the Philippines. One knockout won’t make him quit the game,” he said.
