MANILA, Philippines – United States President Barack Obama welcomed superstar guard Derrick Rose back to the NBA ahead of the season-opener between Rose’s Chicago Bulls and the defending champions Miami Heat.
Obama, a huge basketball fan who supports his hometown Bulls, tweeted “Welcome back, D-Rose” ahead of the game, adding the hashtag #BullsNation.

Rose had missed all of the 2012-2013 NBA season after sustaining an ACL injury during the playoffs in April 2012.
The game against Miami – the two-time defending NBA champions – will be his first official NBA game in 550 days. Rose has played in pre-season games, however, and fans have seen flashes of his trademark explosiveness as well as improved outside shooting from the 2012 NBA Most Valuable Player.
As of publishing, the Bulls trail the Heat, 56-72, in the third quarter. Rose has scored 10 points in 27 minutes of action.
