Amit gets past China's Bi in Women's 10-Ball
MANILA, Philippines - In a duel between Philippines and China, home country darling Rubilen Amit delivered for Pinoy fans by beating tough challenger Bi Zhu Qing of China at the Resorts World Manila.
The former world champion took an early 2-0 lead, but Bi came back to make a match out of their round robin encounter.
Amit, a Gold and Bronze Medalist at the Worlds, finished her off with a 6-4 win.
"After all of these years of being in the news daily in the Philippines during the World 10-Ball Championships, I still am not used to all the pressure and publicity,” admitted the cue artist from Cebu.
Joining Amit at the World Championship are Iris Ranola, 14-year-old sensation Cheska Centeno, and 16-year-old Gillian Go.
Ranola, Centeno and Go qualified for the competition in the days leading up to the Worlds. Amit, meanwhile, was directly invited to represent Philippines as the No. 1 player in the nation.
A total of 48 world class lady pros from 20 countries are competing in the event, sanctioned by the World Pool Association.
Matches will air live daily from 11pm - 8am EST on www.insidepool.tv and broadcast worldwide by ABS-CBN Sports.
