Pulpul leads pack as Billiards Stars Search opens
World Ten-Ball semifinalist Demosthenes "Plong-Plong" Pulpul leads a pack of other WTBC hopefuls as the Billiard Stars opens Wednesday at the Star Billiards Center in Quezon City.
Aside from Pulpul, who brought home around P700,000 in the week-long event last month in Manila, WTBC contenders Elvis Calasang, Antonio Gabica, Jeffrey De Luna, Mario Tolentino, Leonardo Didal, Arnel Bautista and Victor Arpilleda will also join the five-day event at the Star Billiards in Grace Village.
Zemonette Oryan and 14-year-old child wonder Jonas Magpantay will also see action in the event that will use Ten Ball rules. Double eliminations up to the quarterfinals and a knockout in the semis will be used.
Calasang will attempt to defend the title he won against Pulpul in the Stars Search's Class A division in July.
Organizer Raya Sports said the tournament sanctioned by the Billiards and Snookers Congress of the Philippines is open to players of all skill levels regardless of age, sex or nationality.
Four division championships up for competition: Division A (Race to 9), Division B (Race to 8), Division C (Race to 7) and Division D (Race to 6).
Entry fee in the event is set at P600 for Class A and P400 for Class B, C and D.
Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the top players in each division. Cash prizes will be based on number of entries.
Top four slots in Division A will be awarded places in Stage 2 of the Tagaytay Kabayan Cup in December.
