Lady Eagles rally to repulse Falcons
MANILA - Ateneo-OraCare fought back from two sets down then outlasted Adamson in a thrilling fifth set showdown to hack out an 18-25, 11-25, 26-24, 25-22, 15-11 victory to finish solo fourth at the close of the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 elims at The Arena in San Juan Friday night.
Alumna and guest player Charo Soriano fired 15 hits while Angeline Gervacio and Gretchen Ho tossed in 12 points apiece and Bea Pascual had nine hits as the Lady Eagles posted the second conference’s most stirring comeback.
Ateneo thus closed out the elims with a 4-3 mark and will bring that winning feeling to the quarters, another single round robin affair, which starts tomorrow.
“This is a big psychological boost for the team,” said Ateneo coach Clint Malazo, whose wards finally ended the Lady Falcons’ domination in their last eight faceoffs.
The win was Ateneo’s first against Adamson since Game 2 of their best-of-three series for third in 2007.
