Amit crashes out of women's world 10-ball
MANILA, Philippines - Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit bowed out of contention in the 2011 Yalin World Women's 10-Ball championship last Saturday after losing in the Last 8 against Chinese Taipei's Chen Tsai-pei at the Robinson's Galleria in Ortigas.
Chen ended Amit's bid to regain the crown she won in 2009, ousting the top Filipino bet, 8-7, in the quarterfinals.
Amit made a magnificent shot in the 14th frame to force a hill-hill finale that Chen clinched.
"Masaya na akong naka-abot sa 7-all, kahit may mga dry break akong natamo sa kabuuan ng laro," said Amit. "Maraming salamat sa lahat ng suporta ng mga kababayan natin."
Chen raced to a commanding 5-3 lead but Amit rallied to regain the upper hand at 6-5.
"Malakas talaga ang field kasi isa-isang bumabagsak ang mga paborita," said Amit, the Southeast Asian Games double gold winner (9-ball and 8-ball singles) in 2009.
Earlier, another Filipina cue artist, Iris Ranola, was ousted by H.S. Lai of Chinese Taipei, 4-8. Amit reached the Last 8 by crushing Keiko Yukawa of Japan, 8-4. -- By Marlon Bernardino
