ASEAN Basketball: Patriots stun Slingers

MANILA – The Philippine Patriots scored a stunning victory over the Singapore Slingers in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Arena.

The Patriots dealt the Slingers their first loss in the league, 70-53, the ABL website reported.

The Patriots and Slingers met last Oct. 18 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium where the Slingers won, 74-69.

The Patriots were powered by Brandon Charles Powell (14 points), Jason Lamar Dixon (12 points) and Jerwin Gaco (11 points). Elmer Espiritu and Val Acuña from the University of the East also saw action against the Slingers.

Nonoy Baclao of the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles did not play because of a hamstring injury.

The Slingers, meanwhile, had Michael LeBlanc and Kyle Jeffers as top scorers with 14 points each.

The Singapore squad, however, lacked two players. Al Vergara was reportedly not in form due to injury.
