Top Rank, GBP willing to negotiate Pac-Floyd fight
MANILA, Philippines – Top Rank Inc.’s big boss Bob Arum said he is willing to sit down and talk with Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) to arrange the superfight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
"You know, conversations are never bad. Conversations, that's what adults do," Arum said in Ringtv.com.
Arum said he prefers to do the negotiations in private and that he’d rather negotiate with GBP.
Arum didn’t like what Mayweather’s camp did when it hinted that the undefeated boxer wanted to fight Pacquiao sometime in May.
"They discuss business and they don't do it through the media. They do it face to face," he said, referring to GBP.
GBP CEO Richard Schaefer said his client really wanted the Pacquiao fight.
"[He] to start from the top, and that's obviously a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight," said Schaefer.
Schaefer sees that the negotiations will take place after Pacquiao’s upcoming fight.
Pacquiao will face Juan Manuel Marquez this weekend at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"This week, of course, the focus is going to be on Pacquiao's next fight with Jan Manuel Marquez," said Schaefer. "But after that, there will be plenty of time to talk about that match up between Mayweather and Pacquiao."
