Pacquiao working hard to solve Marquez's puzzle
MANILA, Philippines – Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is working hard at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, where he is trying to solve the puzzle posed by his December 8 opponent, Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao and Marquez will fight for the fourth time on December 8 in Las Vegas, after their first three fights failed to produce a clear-cut winner. Officially, Pacquiao defeated Marquez in their 2008 and 2011 rematches after the two battled to a draw in 2004.
Marquez remains convinced, however, that he won all three fights. Both fighters have promised that the fourth fight will have a more decisive result.
“We will be starting to study different moves to solve the puzzle of Marquez’s style,” Pacquiao said in interview with PhilBoxing.
“Hindi lang naman kasi kami magre-rely lang on strategies na gagamitin sa laban. Kailangan din matutuhan ang mga kilos to keep distance sa kalaban at makaiwas sa mga gagawin niya,” he added.
Although he lost twice to Pacquiao, Marquez has given the Filipino boxer a lot of trouble thanks to his slick counter-punching and footwork.
“Sabi ng marami, kontra-pelo ni Manny si Marquez,” said one of Pacquiao’s trainer, Buboy Fernandez. “Pero hindi naman kami naniniwala diyan.”
Fernandez, who is also one of Pacquiao’s closest friends, did admit that they are “preparing Manny mentally” for the bout.
“Manny realizes na panalo siya sa nakaraang tatlong laban nila at alam niya din kung bakit, so I believe that psychologically, hindi siya apektado nito,” Fernandez said.
