Bacchus Energy Drink survived a late comeback by Hapee Toothpaste to score an 88-84 upset victory in Tuesday’s second game in the 2009 PBL PG Flex Linoleum Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Rookie Paul Lee led Bacchus with a team-high 17 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and five assists in 28 minutes while Pari Llagas and James Martinez added 14 and 12 markers respectively as the Energy Warriors recovered from a seven-point half-time lead to stun the Complete Protectors.
"I knew we could get this win," said Bacchus head coach Lawrence Tiongson.
"Hopefully, the boys won't be satisfied with just one win and use this as a momentum for our next game," he added.
Former UAAP MVP Jervy Cruz led Hapee with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Earn Saguindel scored 17 points while Fil-Am Lance Convento and Jim Viray each scored 11.
Down by 11 points with over three minutes left, a barrage of points from Convento enabled Hapee to mount a comeback.
But down by two points, Convento threw an errant pass to Cruz off the inbound with eight seconds with the team down by two points to seal Bacchus' win.
