V-League: SSC hands UST its first loss
Adamson, St. Benilde beat V-League foes
MANILA – League leader University of Santo Tomas (UST) suffered its first loss in Season 6 of the Shakey’s V-League after being overwhelmed by San Sebastian College (SSC) in the quarterfinal round Tuesday.
The Lady Stags beat the Tigresses, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24, 25-22, at The Arena in San Juan City, reported V-League.ph.
Analyn Joy Benito powered the Lady Stags with 25 points. Jinni Mondejar tossed in 16 points while Margarita Pepito made 13 points.
Maika Angela Ortiz and Ma. Angeli Tabaquero, meantime, scored 18 points apiece for UST which was undefeated in the elimination round with 7 wins.
The Tigresses overpowered the Lady Stags last week in their final elimination round match on Friday, 25-11, 25-10, 25-15.
The Lady Stags also suffered a straight sets defeat in their first quarterfinal match on Tuesday. They lost to the Adamson Lady Falcons, 15-25, 13-25, 12-25.
The SSC spikers will aim for another win on Friday when they go against the Lady Falcons.
Five-set thriller
Earlier, Adamson got past the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tams, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13.
“They kept on coming back. They just wouldn’t give up,” Adamson coach Dulce Pante told V-League.ph.
Paulina Soriano led the Lady Falcons with 19 points, followed by Angela Benting and Jill Gustilo with 17 hits each.
FEU’s Cherry May Vivias contributed 25 points, Shaira Gonzalez had 22 points, and Rachel Anne Daquis made 15 points.
Meanwhile, the College of St. Benilde (CSB) Lady Blazers swept the Ateneo-OraCare Lady Eagles in Tuesday’s first match.
Giza Yumang put in 18 points, Rosann Fajardo made 16 points, and Katty Kwan added 15 points. Lady Eagles Denise Acevedo and Fille Cainglet, on the other hand, scored 10 points each.
CSB is set to take on FEU on Friday while Ateneo will face SSC.
